Supporting Schools, Nurseries & Venues

How the CAA supports schools, nurseries & venues

The children’s activities sector, encompassing up to 30,000 providers, is currently unregulated, which presents risks for schools and nurseries that partner with third-party providers. While many providers meet high standards, without regulation, there is no consistent assurance of safeguarding, first aid, compliance, and accountability.

Which is where the CAA comes in. Our mission is to raise standards and provide a benchmark for ensuring the safety and well-being of children attending activities.

The CAA Members' Badge

When you meet with a potential provider, ask them if they are a CAA Member, or look for the CAA Badge displayed on their website and paperwork. If they can show you their CAA badge, then they have been through our Certification Process and evidenced that they meet our benchmark.

What if they aren’t a CAA Member?

If they aren’t yet a CAA Member, we would recommend that you ask them to join to give you peace of mind, but if you are still keen to work with them, we have created the following checklist for you.

Whilst it doesn’t guarantee they meet our Certified benchmark for keeping children safe, it will help you evaluate whether they have the fundamentals in place.

School Supply
Checklist for Schools, Nurseries, and Venues when looking to work with 3rd party activity providers:

  • Can they provide evidence of safeguarding policies, procedures, and training?

  • Have their staff and volunteers completed DBS checks and background screenings?

  • Do they have verified appropriate levels of insurance in place and current first-aid training?

  • Are they compliant with high levels health and safety standards for working with children?

  • Can they provide tailored risk assessments for their activities?

  • Do they have a code of conduct for working with children?

There are many safety and safeguarding resources available under News & Resources to support providers, so please direct them to our page. Providers can also get discounts on DSL training, insurance, DBS Checks, and access further support by becoming a CAA Supporter, which is completely free. So please, do encourage them to visit this site.
