The Children’s Activities Association (CAA) welcomes today’s government guidance on screen use for young children, recognising the challenges families face in a digital world.
This guidance reinforces what our sector sees every day: that children thrive through movement, interaction, and real-world experiences. Activities such as dance, sport, music and creative play are essential for supporting physical development, communication skills, and emotional wellbeing.
We encourage families to view this guidance not as a restriction, but as an opportunity to prioritise play, connection and active learning. Even small changes like replacing short periods of screen time with structured activities can have a lasting impact on a child’s development.
Screens can play a positive role when used together and in moderation. However, they should never replace the vital experiences that come from being active, social, and engaged in the world around us.
Our members across the UK are proud to support families by providing safe, engaging, and development-focused activities that help children build confidence, friendships, and lifelong skills.
We look forward to supporting parents to ensure all families can access high-quality children’s activities as part of a balanced, healthy childhood.
CEO Anne-Marie Martin commented... “We welcome today’s announcement as an aid to highlight the amazing children’s activities our members represent. They offer an enriching variation of sessions children can attend which help with social skills as well as physical and emotional development.”
